The date for the 2nd Annual Mansion 5K has been set for Saturday, April 18th. Again, this year, enthusiastic runners from all over the region will be gathering in Tupelo for this great event as a huge fund raiser to benefit the Mansion. Several running clubs have endorsed this race and are helping to promote it.
Last year, I set a personal goal to raise $55,000.00 and ran 10K (6.2 miles), going the “extra mile” as the President in leading the way for this exciting effort. I had just turned 55 years old, and the Mansion was celebrating 55 years since it was founded in 1953. The support was fantastic as sponsors got behind me and together we were able to raise over $65,000.00!
This year I am going to try and run 10 miles and have set a goal to raise $56,000.00 – one thousand dollars for each year that the Mansion has been in existence. I have never run 10 miles before, but I am training vigorously and should be ready by April 18th. It is my goal to do the run in about one hour and a half, averaging about 5.5 – 6 miles per hour. However, it may take me 10 to 20 minutes longer than that. My purpose is not to set any records…but to finish the race!
In a few days, we will have my Web site up where sponsors can go and make a pledge of support or donate online. I hope that you will consider sponsoring me. I need a bunch of friends to give $100.00 per mile, but every contribution, regardless of amount, will help us reach our goal!
If you would like to make a pledge of support today and be among my first sponsors, you can simply email me at: firstname.lastname@example.org
With other runners raising support, along with our corporate sponsors, we hope to raise $100,000.00 from this project alone.
I’ll keep you posted on my training progress. I’m working out every day and gradually increasing my time and distance on the treadmill. Losing 15 – 20 pounds between now and race day will help!
